READ EASY

One Day A Week of Your Time.  Life Changing.

READ EASY CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR A CO-ORDINATOR

Read Easy helps adults who struggle to read for any reason and latest estimates put that number at around 5m people in the UK.  Using a simple, proven system based on phonics, volunteer coaches help new readers to ‘crack the code’ in free, 1:1 learning sessions.   Read Easy is a registered charity with groups in Dorset as well as London, Oxford, Winchester and Bristol.

The volunteer group in Shaftesbury & Gillingham is looking to appoint a   Co-ordinator  to enrol new coaches and readers, organise and keep records, arrange training and monitor progress,  provide support throughout and link with the management committee of the group.    It is estimated that this voluntary role will occupy approximately one day a week in total – a flexible approach is helpful as well as good planning and organisation; communication, teamwork and computer literacy.   Expenses are reimbursed and full training will be given.

Helping to give the gift of reading to others is very rewarding as well as enjoyable.    As one Read Easy graduate said “you people have changed my life and I can’t thank you enough”.

Be part of something life changing.     For more information contact 01747 835 880, email jennampope@gmail.com or find us at http://readeasy.org.uk/contact/

Hippbones Club 4 Young People with Special Needs

HELP REQUIRED

Hippbones Youth Club, which started in 2006, runs fortnightly on Saturday mornings in Gillingham Youth and Community Centre and, because of ever increasing popularity, more volunteers and Youth Development Trainees are now needed. There is a lovely atmosphere in the Club which functions with 3 qualified staff, volunteers and Youth Development Trainees.

Volunteers receive free support, training and accreditation so you don’t have to be qualified or experienced. You just need a kind personality, patience and a sense of humour.

The Youth Development Trainee Scheme (YDT) has been running for 30 years and gives a real opportunity for teenagers, aged 14 plus, to gain invaluable life skills and experience and gain invaluable training and accreditation. Expenses can be paid too.

If interested contact us on hippbonesc4ysn@gmail.com , leave contact details at the Youth Centre on Cemetery Road or pop into the Club on a Saturday morning and we can give you application details. Note that for YDT’s the application process is the start of the training and accreditation.

The Club is totally self funding, through hippbonesc4ysn Charity (number EW24625). Visit the website (Hipp!!Bones C4YSN ) for more information.

Gillingham Youth and Community Centre (Bones)

Looking for volunteers to help with Duke of Edinburgh Group.

Do you have a love of the outdoors and a yen to share it with young eager minds striving to reach their full potential?

Would you be prepared to commit long term volunteer time to a DofE Group in return for full training and support to become qualified in DofE Leadership, as well as, where important to your role, achieving nationally recognised Hill Walking qualifications?

Gillingham Youth Centre runs a very successful Group on a Tuesday evening and has a busy Expedition training schedule planned for 2013. Ever increasing numbers of young people now urgently need further adult leaders who may or may not already be experienced or trained.

Volunteers are subject to an enhanced CRB disclosure and can take on one or even all of the following roles.

Expedition Leaders

with suitable experience and qualifications supervise and lead groups of young people in an expedition environment at weekends which will involve overnight camping and ideally a full driving licence. They need, or must be prepared to train for at least the SWMM Coastal and Countryside and Expedition Supervisor’s qualifications which will be offered at no cost.

DofE Leaders

support overall DofE achievement. They lead, guide, inspire and encourage young people, agree their programme choices and approve their progress through eDofE.

DofE Assessors

are competent adults who assess qualifying expeditions. They are approved by DCC, which is the Youth Centre’s Operating Authority, and accredited by the DofE through the Expedition Assessor Accreditation Scheme.
