SPECTRUM - PATHWAY PROGRAMME

Pathway Programme helps residents into work

Following a successful pilot programme to help eight long-term unemployed people get back into work, Spectrum Housing Group has been able to extend the scheme to help a further thirty individuals, specifically targeting Spectrum residents.

The Pathway Programme is an employment and skills project in partnership with government work programme provider, Working Links. It offers eight weeks unpaid work experience with the potential to progress onto a six month paid placement.

Placements are available in a variety of locations and for a range of office-based and trade positions.

As well as real-life work experience and on-the-job training, those on placement can access some of the 100 face-to-face training courses and 50 computer-based courses that are available to Spectrum staff. CV review, application help and interview training is also available to help with the next step on the employment pathway.

Chris Hart has recently completed a Pathway placement with Spectrum and secured a permanent job at Poole Housing Partnership (PHP) as a Systems Support Officer. He said: “It is a worthwhile scheme for people who genuinely want to improve their chances of finding work. Since completion, I haven’t looked back.”

Chris continued: “For my family, it has enabled us to feel more secure and look towards a brighter future.”

All eight Pathway recruits on the pilot finished the six month paid placement, three have gone onto permanent work or an apprenticeship and two are currently undergoing assessment for apprenticeships.

Wayne Morris, CEO of Spectrum Housing Group said: “Using our resources to improve the employment prospects of Spectrum residents is at the heart of our vision to create great communities in which people can make a home. The Pathway programme has proved an extremely successful vehicle for this and we look forward to its continued success.”

Spectrum is committed to improving the work prospects of residents and has pledged £200,000, a dedicated project manager and a project coordinator.

Suppliers are also encouraged to get involved with the scheme and offer training and employment opportunities to Spectrum residents.

If you are a Spectrum resident and interested in taking part in the Pathway Programme, and you are signed up to the Work Programme, please telephone the Spectrum contact centre on 0800 783 7837 (freephone) or 0300 777 7837 from mobiles between 8am and 6pm.
